As perfectionists, we can love ourselves.

However, we tend to over-engineer our processes and do too much. Developing self-love is no different.

We need a simple, flexible framework that empowers us to create solutions that work.

Below, you'll find a self-love protocol designed for perfectionists:

Slow and steady wins the self-love race.

Step 1: Schedule Some "Me Time"

Like any other relationship, loving yourself requires time.

It's better to start gradually and stick to a consistent routine. For example, one Thursday a month at 6 p.m. The frequency is up to you.

You can also schedule time whenever you need it. Please put it in your calendar and set reminders.

During difficult times, the importance of self-care becomes even greater.

Stick to it..

Step 2: Check-in

It is time to give yourself your undivided attention.

Set your alarm for up to 50 minutes. If this is not enough, schedule another appointment.

What do you need? This step is flexible. You can choose any tool in your self-care kit.

Journaling is always a great starting point. If you don’t know where to start, I recommend the coaching tool The Self-Love Map.

It is an easy way to figure out what you need each time.

Step 3: Baby Steps

No sprint is necessary in your self-love journey.

We tend to do more than what is required. This leads to burnout and stress. Choosing to do less helps you focus on what will yield better results.

Focus on the next small step, and the path will unfold.

After checking in with yourself, choose one or two small actions. There is no need to overdo it.

Little by little, a little becomes a lot.

Step 4: Track Your Progress

Untracked progress goes unnoticed.

You can use a nice notebook or a simple Word document on your phone.

Easy does it!

Make sure you keep all your entries in the same place.

Tracking your progress allows you to:

  • Stay motivated.

  • Figure out what works.

  • Increase awareness and learn about emerging patterns.

  • Celebrate successes.

  • Reach your goal.

As perfectionists, we are good at focusing on difficulties and ignoring our achievements.

Tracking your progress is a good antidote to that.

Conclusion

The beauty of this protocol lies in its simplicity. As perfectionists, we often complicate matters, but self-love doesn’t require complex formulas. By embracing a slow and steady approach, focusing on small actions, and consistently tracking your progress, you'll discover that sustainable self-love is within reach. This framework is a gentle reminder that you deserve kindness and understanding, especially from yourself.
